Continuing our contemplation John 1:1-8 from yesterday. For today we’ll look at Mark 1:1-3 and his account of Isaiah’s prophecy and the messenger sent before the Messiah. There’s an important consideration we can draw from these passages: Are we rejoicing that the Messiah has come and preparing the way for His return with humility and love?
Mark begins his Gospel by referencing the prophecy from Isaiah, announcing the coming of John the Baptist as the messenger preparing the way for the Lord. This powerful introduction serves as a reminder of the anticipation and preparation surrounding Christ’s first coming.
In the same vein, it prompts us to reflect on our readiness for His return. Are our hearts filled with joy for the Savior who has come, and are our actions aligned with preparing the way for His second coming? The humility and love embodied by John the Baptist in his mission to prepare the way for Christ serve as guiding principles for us as we await the return of our Lord.
As we commemorate Advent, it’s crucial to not only celebrate the historical event of Jesus’ birth but also to prepare our hearts and lives for His eventual return. This involves embracing humility, love, and a fervent dedication to living according to His teachings. It’s a call to actively pave the way for His second advent, ensuring that our actions and attitudes align with His will. We need to strive to live by faith.
Let us, therefore, see this season with a sense of urgency, embracing humility and love, and actively preparing the way for the return of our Savior. May our rejoicing be accompanied by a steadfast commitment to live in accordance with His teachings, readying our hearts and the world for His imminent return.
